Land surface model that simulates ecophysiological processes is one of the cornerstones to project future climate change. To increase credibility of projections of land surface models, a model is required to be evaluated for their accuracy of reproduction of the past. The benchmark is necessary in this process. In my research, I focus on improving the land surface model ORCHIDEE-CN-CAN using tree-ring records. Tree-ring records are widely available and have pre-industrial climatic information that can improve historical simulations and future projections of the model. Improvements will be tested with coupled Earth system model.
