New species discovered in the Vondelpark

Together with a group of citizen scientists, biologist of the VU and Naturalis (including Joris Koene, pictured), have been exploring the busiest and most famous city park of the Netherlands in a quest to find new species. On 9 August 2019 they announced that they had discovered two species that are new to science, a small beetle and a parasitic wasp. In the coming months, the species names and their details will be submitted for publication in a scientific journal by the group, which is coordinated by the organisation Taxon Expedition. During the expedition and afterwards, this effort has attracted quite some media attention, including RTL Nieuws, Quest, NPO radio and national newspapers (see links below).
